French double bassist Joëlle Léandre is one of the dominant figures in new music and free improvisation. She has worked with John Cage, Giacinto Scelsi and Steve Lacy, among others, who, like many others, composed pieces especially for her. And her work as a performer and composer has taken her to the most prestigious stages in Europe, America and Asia. In the early 1990s, she founded the feminist improvisation trio Les Diaboliques together with Irène Schweizer and Maggie Nicols. The evening will be opened by the exceptional Zurich singer, drummer and percussionist Sabina Leone, who became known as the drummer of the “all-girls band” Wemean and as one half of "Sorelle Leone" and is currently on tour with her new solo project Héloïse, in which she sits at her drum kit and sews percussive patterns with scraps of fabric from offstage.
